Performance Development Scheme

Glasgow Caledonian University recognises that its staff are key to its ability to deliver the vision and strategic objectives. The new Performance Development Scheme (PDS), including the new Performance and Development Annual Review (PDAR) form, has been formally adopted by the University and aims to support staff in achieving university and individual goals and development. The PDS is part of broader efforts to encourage a leadership culture in which staff are given feedback on their performance and their development needs are actively discussed, for their own benefit and to drive up institutional performance.

The University’s Performance Development Scheme provides a means for consistent, good quality feedback about a member of staff’s contribution, and support for their development and achievement. This helps embed a positive culture change to the benefit of both the University and the individual member of staff. The key to the Scheme’s success is good management and positive engagement by staff. Leaders and Managers are expected to operate in a professional and fair way, and management training is readily available and designed to support them in so doing. This includes an understanding of the responsibility to address the development of their staff. Additionally, training is available to staff to enable them to engage effectively in the Scheme.

The aims and objectives of the Scheme are:

• To provide support, feedback and guidance for staff in respect of their contribution to the University, and career and personal development.
• To facilitate an ongoing, constructive and open dialogue between staff and their managers.
• To create the clarity necessary to ensure that the activities of individual staff, their team and the University are in harmony, in order to maximise the sustainability and success of the University.
