Appointment/Promotion to Academic & Research Roles 2012/13

Promotions/Appointment Round 2012/13

The 2012/2013 Academic Promotions Process opens today (29 April 2013). The policy and the criteria remain unchanged for existing roles. Please note the policy now includes criteria for promotion/appointment to Research led roles; Researcher 1A (Grade 6), Research Fellow (Grade 7) and Senior Research Fellow (Grade 8).

This communication highlights eligibility to apply this year, timescales and further information.

1. ELIGIBILITY

This procedure is open to all staff who wish to apply for appointment/promotion to the roles of Lecturer (Grade 7), Senior Lecturer (Grade 8), Reader (Grade 8), Professor, Researcher 1A (Grade 6), Research Fellow (Grade 7) and Senior Research Fellow (Grade 8). This also allows individuals on a Senior Management contract to apply to be considered for the conferment of the title of Professor.

2. AIM
The aim of the Academic & Research Promotions procedure is to provide a fair, transparent and equitable method of measuring staff member’s contribution to the University which has been excellent or outstanding and significantly beyond the requirements of their current role. It has been developed with due regard to the University’s Equality and Diversity Policy.

3. TIMESCALES

  • Launch

Monday 29 April 2013

  • Completed applications must be forwarded to the Head of Department

Friday 10 May 2013

  • Head of Department should complete the statement and return the completed application to their Executive Dean* (copying in the applicant)

Friday 24 May 2013

  • SMG review all applications within their School & Executive Deans issue written outcomes to the applicants

by Friday 7 June 2012 (5pm)

 

by Wednesday 12 June 2013

  • The HR team will prepare appropriate paperwork for the Academic Promotions Panel to consider the applications

  • 1st Promotions Panel meeting
Monday 24 June 2013
  • 2nd Promotions Panel meeting
Wednesday 7 August 2013
  • Outcome letters issues & feedback provided
w/c 12 August 2013

*In the event an applicant is applying outwith a School, their application should be submitted to their Line Manager in the first instance by Friday 10 May 2013 then forwarded to the relevant Executive Lead (copying in the applicant) by Friday 24 May 2013.

The appointments/promotions will be confirmed from the date of promulgated decision with a retrospective implementation of 1 August 2013 for payment.
