Programme Description
The programme intends to prepare health care professionals to meet the current and future challenges associated with delivering safe and effective advancing clinical practice and therefore is robust, professionally relevant and academically challenging. The central concept which underpins this programme is the development of clinical competence in undertaking roles associated with advancing clinical practice in Community/Primary Care settings. Students will, therefore, through high levels of active engagement in the learning process, be expected and encouraged to pursue innovative practice development, whilst assuming responsibility for their learning and that of peers in a multi-disciplinary context. Study of Core and Elective modules will enable students to assimilate, integrate and utilise knowledge derived from a wide range of sources and thereby develop an enquiring, analytical and creative approach to professional practice. Programme Structure
To gain the award of MSc Advancing Practice in Primary Care, the student must achieve 180 credits through study/and or accreditation of prior learning.
Core modules include: Advanced Assessment Skills and Clinical Decision Making in Primary Care (30 Credits); Non-Medical Prescribing (30 Credits); Advanced Research Methods (30 Credits) and completion of a Research Dissertation (60 Credits).
Elective modules may include: Chronic Disease Management (15 Credits) and Advanced Practice Roles (15 Credits), Exit routes at Post Graduate Diploma (120 credits) and Post Graduate Certificate (60 credits).

Assessment
Combination of Observed Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE), Examination, Coursework and Practice Based Competency assessments. A supervised Research Dissertation is submitted as the final assessment.
