GCU Undergraduate Health and Safety... make sure you know your health and safety responsibilities
Undergraduate responsibilities
- As an undergraduate student you are responsible for behaving in a safe manner, thereby helping ensure your own safety and that of others (including other staff, students and visitors).
- To read, understand and comply with University, School and Departmental policies and procedures on health and safety for example, fire and security procedures. Details of the School and Departmental policies and procedures on health and safety can be found in your programme handbook.
- You must also follow the appropriate safe systems of work (these will be provided by those responsible for supervising your activities) and be aware of the hazards local to the area you work in.
- You should not interfere with or misuse anything that is provided in the interest of health and safety.
- Promptly report any accident, incident or near miss to a member of staff who is supervising you.
- In the event of an emergency (e.g. Fire, First Aid, Security) telephone extension 2222 or approach a member of staff.
We need to work together to understand the potential risks of everything we do, and minimise those risks. Everyone has a responsibility for themselves and for those around them and we must use the support and training available to help us all ‘work safely’. If you have any health and safety concerns, please contact a member of staff who is supervising you or the nearest member of staff available. A health and safety problem – even a minor one could put you, your colleagues and your work at risk.
