The primary aim of the Academic Development Tutors is to enable students to reach their academic potential and to help improve the academic performance of all students.
In addition, as part of its commitment to a policy of access, it encourages students from under-represented groups and offers routes for students with HNCs and HNDs as well as improving progression and retention., The Academic Development Tutors, along with other staff members, play an important role for students prior to, and once established on, their programme.
Each student is provided with a profile of the learning skills which they have completed throughout the learning strategies week which they can use in discussion with their Academic Advisor to identify areas for future development. The introduction of PDP is considerably enhanced by the strategies employed within this approach. It is essential that the students have undergone a significant learning strategies programme in order to enable them to demonstrate the skills relevant to effective learning within higher education.
Students can make an appointment, or drop in, to see an Academic Development Tutor at the times given below.
As part of a pro-active approach and a key function of the provision of their support, all students who have failed modules are automatically contacted by the Academic Development Tutor in order to discuss with them their learning strategy and to provide them with additional academic support. Therefore, all students ...in Law and Social Sciences who were required to sit the second diet exams (re-sits) at the end of the year are invited to personal meetings to discuss their strategy/plan for the re-sit diet, in order to improve their skills and academic performance, and many students take advantage of this opportunity to great success.
