What is the difference between the Data Protection Act and Freedom Of Information?

The Data Protection Act operates alongside the Freedom of Information Act. It aims to protect individuals' rights to privacy and rights to fair processing of their personal data (whether they are staff, students, honorary staff members or the subjects of a research project).

The University complies with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998 with regard to the collection, storage, processing and disclosure of personal information and is committed to upholding the Act's core Data Protection Principles
