Management Accounting
Management Accounting is responsible for providing financial support, advice and information to assist budget holders to monitor financial performance, achieve financial objectives and aid decision making.
General responsibilities of Management Accounting are:
- Budget Preparation, Monitoring and Forecasting
Provide support and advice to Schools/Departments in the preparation of 3 year budgets to meet School/Department objectives.
Provide support and advice to Schools/Departments throughout the year to monitor and forecast their financial position.
- Financial Advice & Guidance
Provide support and advice in the preparation of Business Cases, costing Academic Programmes, CPD courses & Conferences and set-up and maintenance of Risk Registers.
- Reporting and Analysis
Provide online reports that show budget and transaction information to assist budget and account holders with financial monitoring and to further develop existing reports to meet the needs of users.
Prepare ad hoc reports to further assist with monitoring University/individual performance and to also meet regulatory/funding body requirements.
- Post Award Service for Externally Funded Projects
Issue new accounts for externally funded projects, prepare and submit research and European claims, provide assistance for preparing financial analysis reports for external funding bodies.
- Training
Management Accounting offer standard training presentations throughout the year and tailor specific courses on request.
- TRAC & fEC
Co-ordinate the collection of Time Allocation Schedules required to inform TRAC return and applying TRAC methodology in order to calculate Estates and Indirect rates that inform the fEC costing model used by RIS for pre-award research costings.
- Other
Management Accounting is also responsible for Non-IT Inventory, approving Staff Appointment forms, providing assistance and advice regarding Delegated Authority, activating/deactivating accounts, processing coding corrections and processing budget transfers.
