Domestic Services
The university operates an in-house cleaning service which carries out a range of space cleaning duties in offices, classrooms, laboratories and public areas with the exception of the Refectory area and the premises occupied by the Students' Association.
The changes in technology and organisation that have occurred within the last few years in the cleaning industry has required Domestic Management to increase professionalism by developing new techniques, adapting to and managing change and improving managerial skills. The management team are trained to British Institute of Cleaning Science standard and domestic assistants receive BICS training.
The university has been enrolled as a British Institute of Cleaning Service Training Centre. This service has made rapid progress since its creation as an independent entity three years ago. It has well trained staff using modern equipment and closely supervised by line managers. Productivity as measured by cost per square metre has risen considerably.
