As all examinations are carried out by student practitioners, an eye examination may take up to 90 minutes to complete, including verification by the supervisor.
The initial interview includes:
- a detailed history of problems with current spectacles
- an analysis of current problems with distance and near vision and any related symptoms such as eyestrain, headaches or other visual symptoms
- a review of the patient’s and the patient’s family ocular and general health and the patient’s current medication
- a review of ocular vocational needs e.g. safety spectacles or special prescriptions for hobbies or other interests e.g. driving, skiing
