The Caledonian Environment Centre (CEC) is able to provide imaginative and pragmatic sustainable solutions to a wide range of public and private sector clients which are focused on deliverability and integrated to meet the required commercial, strategic or other objectives.

Specifically areas of assistance include:

• Technology – We can provide technical expertise in the assessment and evaluation of advanced waste treatment technologies, including composting, anaerobic digestion, energy from waste, mechanical separation, sorting systems and landfill.
• Strategy – We have expertise on developing and implementing waste strategies and recycling programmes. Provide advice on recycling markets and material reprocessing facilities (MRFs) and their requirements.
• Waste Hierarchy – we provide specialist advice on waste prevention, re-use, recycle and energy recovery in support of sustainable approaches to waste management;
• Waste and Carbon – We link our carbon portfolio with waste to demonstrate how both policy areas are mutually beneficial.
• Data Management – We provide effective advice on waste arisings and use of waste and environmental data, through specialist software and database applications.

Scotland’s environment, Local Authorities and the Waste Industry has never faced more challenges than in recent years and this will continue until 2020 and beyond.  Some of the biggest challenges are facing local authorities, who are required to meet criteria defined at European Union level, which led to specific landfill diversion targets that must be met within certain timeframes.  The penalty for the authorities and the country as a whole if this fails come in the form of large financial fines that could cost £millions.  This together with the Scottish Government’s Zero Waste Targets is driving change within the Local Authorities and the Waste Industry to provide integrated waste solutions.
