Dumfries and Galloway Council was selected to join the Carbon Trust’s Public Sector Carbon Management Programme in 2008/2009. CEC was contracted to undertake a carbon emissions audit and to establish the council’s carbon baseline from the delivery of the council’s services. This has enabled the council to set realistic targets to reduce emissions. The CMP developed established a minimum reduction of 20% and savings of around £1.66 million. CEC staff facilitated the development of the CMP through running a series of workshops with the sustainability team at the council, developing carbon and finance projection models and preparing the Carbon Management Plan report for the council. The CMP was agreed by the Council in May 2009.
