Effective Learning Service

The ELS aims to assist all GCU students in improving their learning skills by providing appropriately tailored support.

The service is inclusive and we are committed to providing guidance that meets the specific learning and teaching needs of all students including disabled students and those with dyslexia. It is free and confidential.

What kind of support does the ELS offer?

Appointments for individual face-to-face help*.
Drop-in sessions for short consultations Please note these have stopped and will recommence at the beginning of semester A, 2010
Group appointments*
Generic workshops organised by the ELS to meet specific needs at certain times of the year e.g. on exam and revision skills.
Tailored workshops requested by staff or students to meet specific needs
English language support for international students
Online support for students unable to come into University.
On-line guides for help with referencing, essay writing, presentations etc.
Vidcasts

Each academic school also has Academic Development Tutor (s) (ADT). The service in each school is slightly different as the ADTs' remit is to best meet the study needs of students and programmes within the academic schools.
