James is a Chartered Surveyor and Builder with extensive academic and consultancy experience both in the UK and the Middle East.
He is Chairman of the Chartered Institution of Builders and also Chair of the Herald Property Awards.
His research includes work on the management of construction enterprises and, in particular, people within construction organisations and the impact of change upon human resources. Within this remit is research on Corporate Strategy allied to construction enterprises and the wider construction community including quality and defects in buildings. James also has a particular interest in innovation in construction and micro-enterprise business.
He is also involved in how Project Management services are delivered, to whom and the response of the customer to marketing efforts are live issues. His work covers the implementation of Environmental Management Systems (EMS), the strategic impact of integrating EMS within Total Quality (TQM) and other management frameworks, together with the impact of management systems upon human resources within the construction industry.
