Guidelines for Dealing with Enquiries

Types of Enquiry

It should be noted that dealing with enquiries requires a high degree of care.  Enquiries requiring the disclosure of personal information of staff and students must be carefully considered.

We are not allowed to disclose personal information about members of staff or students without their consent.

It is suggested that staff refrain from telling callers that the Data Protection Act prevents them from giving information. It is suggested instead, that enquirers be told that "it is not the University's policy to provide that information over the phone, but that the caller should put the request in writing".

  1. Internal Enquiries
  2. External Enquiries
  3. Reference Requests
  4. Urgent/Medical Enquiries
  5. Enquiries from the Police
  6. Enquiries from the Media
  7. Enquiries from staff or student themselves
  8. Enquiries to meet the University's Legal Requirements
