It’s a look at the creativity at work behind everything from toothbrushes to tech gadgets. It’s about the designers who re-examine, re-evaluate and re-invent our manufactured environment on a daily basis. It’s about personal expression, identity, consumerism, and sustainability

Three nine-metre-high murals and an engraved archway by renowned artists Toby Paterson and Gary Breeze have been commissioned by the university to form the centrepiece and focal point of the Saltire Centre.
Inspired by the centre itself, award-winning Glasgow artist Paterson will paint the three huge murals on the walls of the centre’s ground floor student services mall. Gary Breeze – who engraved the quotation into the pavement at the entrance to Queensberry House of the Scottish Parliament – has created a dissembled archway engraved with an ancient conversation written in poem form.
The Scottish Arts Council awarded £36,000 of National Lottery funding towards Gary’s artwork and a related arts education programme. The Moffat Charitable Trust pledged £60,000 over three years – the first instalment going towards the artwork – and the university’s own charitable trust contributed £40,000.

Omar came first with his idea for a specialist Indian sweet shop, Jill as first runner up with her healthy alternative to McDonalds restaurants, and Louis as second runner up with his interactive CD ROM for autistic children.
