Working for the Common Good
Glasgow Caledonian University Coat of Arms incorporates aspects of both the Coats of Arms of our founding institutions, Glasgow Polytechnic and The Queen's College. For The Common Weal comes from The Queens College and remains our motto today underpining everything we do at GCU.
At our Chancellor's installation in 2012, Principal Pamela Gillies describes this university's commitment to the common weal, the common good as:
Providing opportunities to talented students whatever their background and circumstances and to applying our research ideas, knowledge and expertise by aligning and collaborating with others for the practical benefit of the individuals, communities and organisations, we serve at home in Scotland and overseas, all to ensure lasting impact."Professor Pamela Gillies, Glasgow Caledonian University
