Trade Union Research Unit
The Trade Union Research Unit (TURU) was established at Glasgow Caledonian University in 1978 and since then we have undertaken a wide range of research and consultancy work at local, regional, national, and international level.
We are able to draw on a wide range of specialists within the unit, the Caledonian Business School and the wider university to undertake research and consultancy for the trade union and labour movement.
Trade union courses
Working in partnership with the Scottish Centre for Work Based Learning, we can design courses which reflect your learning needs. Where a number of employees or members from the same organisation or union are interested in Work Based Learning, we can construct a themed approach to ensure a common programme for a group of learners.
Learning through work
Work Based Learning is highly flexible, and can be adapted to allow you to follow the most effective course of study for you. If you can demonstrate that you have gone beyond working to learning through work, it offers you the chance of higher level education and qualifications, without giving up your job. Other benefits include:
- Learning while still earning
- Integrating work and study
- Flexibility in terms of what, how, where and when you learn
- Flexible entry requirements
- Gain a recognised qualification
