The careers adviser showed me ways of restructuring my CV that I hadn’t thought about."Jenny Lawrence, Graduate Surveyor in Property Management at Ryden LLP, Glasgow<
BSc (Hons) Property Management & Valuation Graduated 2009
How did you get your job?
I heard Ryden were looking for a graduate so I emailed them my CV and a covering letter. I was then asked to email over some examples of coursework from Uni and invited to an interview a few days later, which was successful!
How did you first hear about the careers service?
I first heard about the careers service when my class had an interview preparation session with the careers adviser before applying for our 3rd year placements.
What did the careers service help you with?
After I graduated, I struggled to get a job as very few firms were recruiting. I went to the careers service for help polishing up my CV so I had the best chance of getting an interview when firms did start recruiting again.
Were you pleased with the help?
I'm glad I asked them for help as they showed me ways of restructuring my CV that I hadn't thought about. They also suggested I include my dissertation title and reduce the amount of information I included about non property jobs.
What advice would you give for any other students who are looking for work after they graduate?
Some related experience is essential, even if it’s a few weeks unpaid – it’s a foot in the door and you'll make contacts within the industry.
