There are currently around 100 mentors working for the Caledonian Club. Here are a couple of examples of what our mentors have to say about the role:
The Caledonian Club made me more confident about coming to university and has helped make my university experience amazing so far! I've had the chance to meet and work with new and fantastic people. Thank you so much for everything you have done for me and I look forward to the next three years!"Mandy Smith, Caledonian Club former pupil and current Student Mentor
The Caledonian Club has opened up a world of opportunities for me and I’m so proud to be associated with it. My degree has helped me get my dream job, but it’s my experience gained through working as a student mentor that’s prepared me for life! The work undertaken by the Caledonian Club is phenomenal, and again, I’m glad I was part of it."Robert Bell, Former Caledonian Club Student Mentor
Case study: Strengthening family links.Nicole is a Caledonian Club mentor going into her 4th year of Social Sciences. She cites her parents’ encouragement and support from her former school, Springburn Academy, as the two most important factors in her decision to come to university.
For Nicole, being a good role model and giving back to her local community is important. She has inspired many people around her, including her mum Bernadette, who has now joined her daughter as a student at GCU. Bernadette has returned to education to study Child Nursing.
The family link, however, doesn’t end there. Nicole’s sister Natalie is a Club member, who participated in the S6 project. Natalie is currently investigating her post-school options and hopes to work with children when she leaves school.
