Our student mentors are the heart and soul of the Club, supporting all activities alongside Caledonian Club and university staff. Mentors are recruited from across all of GCU’s academic schools and are Disclosure Scotland checked.
Working as a Caledonian Club mentor gives students the chance to fulfill the role of an active citizen, meet other mentors from a variety of disciplines and further develop skills such as leadership, communication and teamwork, which will assist with their own future global employability. The role is also linked into the university’s Student Leadership Programme.
Find out what current members of our mentoring team have to say about their work for the Club.
Caledonian Club mentoring enhances employability skills, improves communication skills and boosts confidence. Students try out how good they are at leading and inspiring others, listening to people’s views and putting ideas into action – the very skills that employers are looking for. Enthusiasm and confidence in their ability to make a difference makes a graduate with mentoring experience stand out from the others. It’s the perfect start of the road to success."Sabine McKinnon, Employability Lecturer, Caledonian Academy, GCU
As a mentor, you see the before and the after too, and you can see the confidence being built up and the difference it makes with the youngsters. It's a rewarding feeling, such a satisfying thing to do and one of the best ways of using your time."Ryan Bounagui, student mentor, Caledonian Club, Glasgow Caledonian University
