What does your role as a PASS Leader involve?
“I run PASS sessions once a week for first years on my course, Human Biology with Sociology and Psychology. I try to make the sessions as interactive as possible, and let the students have most of the input on what we cover.”
Did you access any training to help you with your role?
“Yes, the initial training for PASS was really thorough and enjoyable, involving lots of different activities. I also took part in a facilitation skills workshop which was great, and helped me to develop skills which are necessary for leading a group.”
PASS has been a fantastic opportunity to build up my confidence in presentation skills. It gave me experience in leading a group, which was an opportunity I had never experienced before. It also gave me a great chance to develop my planning and organisational skills, as I had to come up with interesting materials each week."Kat Butler, 4th Year PASS Leader discussing other skills she has developed by being a PASS Leader.
How has your experience of being a PASS Leader helped your graduate employment prospects?
“At a recent interview, I was asked a lot of questions about my involvement in PASS. The interview panel seemed really impressed with this, and I got some great feedback from them. It must have made a good impression because last week they offered me the job! Being involved in PASS has really developed my confidence. It was great when I went for my job interview to have something extra and totally different to speak about, which I think can really make you stand out from the crowd!”.
Finally, what did you enjoy most about being a PASS Leader?
“I really enjoyed doing something extra for the Biosciences department at uni. I have really enjoyed my time studying at Caley, so it was great to have the opportunity to get involved in a different role.”
