Starting university is a big transition for all new students, whether you are coming from school, college or from the workplace. It can take time to settle into university life, meet new people and get to grips with the academic demands of your course.
Peer Assisted Study Support (PASS) is here to help. It is an initiative where trained student PASS Leaders support groups of new students to settle into university life, develop study skills and discuss academic course content. Sessions are delivered as part of your timetable on a weekly basis and are designed to be informal, friendly and student-led. Each week different topics are discussed, ranging from subjects covered in your course to skills development (e.g. presentation skills, essay planning) or more general issues related to settling into university life (e.g. how to use the library or access student support services).
Attending sessions is a good way to meet people on your course and get hints and tips from a more experienced PASS Leader who has been in your position and understands the challenges that you might be facing.
You can contact the PASS Team by emailing pass@gcu.ac.uk . If you are a PASS Leader and would like to speak to member of the PASS Team please come along to one of our drop-in sessions.
