Funding
Supporting innovative business ideas
The Applied Knowledge Exchange offers funding and support to small to medium sized companies (SMEs).
The Business Transformation Fund was a successful £150,000 grant partnership running until March 2010 to help SMEs to work collaboratively with Glasgow Caledonian University and access specialist expertise including consultancy, contract research and access to facilities or equipment.
The university created the £150,000 fund in collaboration with Scottish Enterprise. Successful Business Transformation Fund applicants included Red Button Design, TWM Productions, and Lat 56.
We also welcome enquiries about funding and eligibility for Knowledge Transfer Partnerships from business and third sector organisations.
KTP is the UK's leading knowledge transfer programme, helping businesses to access the knowledge and skills that reside within the UK knowledge base to improve their competitiveness and productivity. KTP is funded by the Technology Strategy Board with 17 other funding organisations.
Glasgow Caledonian University's KTP portfolio encompasses a broad range of business sectors including design, distribution, construction, IT, food, and electronics. In total, projects have attracted grants of over £3m.
We can also tell you more about the Scottish Funding Council Innovation Voucher Scheme, which offers up to £5,000 worth of support for a project. As part of the Strategic Priority Investments in Research and Innovation Translation (SPIRIT) funding stream, the Scottish Funding Council awarded Glasgow Caledonian University with a voucher for £15,000 to help SMEs and third sector organisations boost the innovative capacity of their businesses.
The scheme aims to help firms develop new products or speed up production processes with the help of university experts. The activities to be carried out under the award must be completed by 31 July 2010. For more details of the SFC Innovation Voucher Scheme, please contact Janette McAlpine on 0141 331 8877
Staff and students can also get in touch for advice on the Glasgow Caledonian University Enterprise Fund. The £500,000 Enterprise Fund, launched by Jim Mather MSP, supports joint-venturing activity with organisations which can benefit from the University's expertise. One such business was Spruce Carpets, and innovative social enterprise, which worked with our Caledonian Environment Centre to develop new viable markets for carpet waste.
We also encourage alumni of Glasgow Caledonian University with exciting business proposals to get in touch and benefit from our access to expertise, technology or skills.
