Business Academies: GCU Clients

ClydeUnion
Glasgow-based global manufacturer ClydeUnion Pumps joined forces with Glasgow Caledonian University to launch a bespoke Masters in Leadership and Management for the Manufacturing Sector for delivery through the ClydeUnion Academy. Designed to support the manufacturer’s Scottish staff base and plans for growth initially, this blended learning programme will be rolled out internationally to ClydeUnion facilities.

Howden
Howden, the global engineering company headquartered in Scotland, partnered with Glasgow Caledonian University to create Howden Academy in 2008. Designed by Howden engineers to share their years of specialist operational engineering knowledge and experience with a new generation of engineers, the academy uses the teaching expertise of the School of Engineering and Computing and world-class learning facilities at Glasgow Caledonian University to package and deliver job-specific training modules.

Institution of Railway Operators
Glasgow Caledonian University partners with the Institution of Railway Operators to offer an accredited distance learning professional development programme related to railway operational management. Clients include the Department of Transport, GNER, Iarnrod Eireann, Network Rail and Virgin Rail.

Transnet Freight Rail
Glasgow Caledonian University is working in partnership with The University of Johannesburg and the UK Institution of Railway Operators to deliver a BSc in Railway Operations Management by Learning Contract to Africa’s largest freight rail organisation Transnet Freight Rail, South Africa.

Local Government in Scotland
Developed in partnership with North and South Lanarkshire Scotland’s largest local government authorities, Glasgow Caledonian University’s MSc in Leadership and Management of Public Services continues to be delivered to North and South Lanarkshire and North Ayrshire Councils.

Scottish Ambulance Service
Building on its strengths in health education and research, Glasgow Caledonian University has entered an innovative partnership with the Scottish Ambulance Service that will create a new era of skills training and professional development for ambulance staff. The Scottish Ambulance Academy enables SAS students to learn alongside other health professionals, including nurses and midwifes, in a real life clinical environment for the first time.

Scottish and Southern Energy
Customer management and customer service were identified by Scottish and Southern Energy’s CEO as business critical. This insight led to a partnership with the Scottish Centre for Work Based Learning for the development of an undergraduate top-up degree: BA Business Management by Learning Contract.

Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO)
The UK’s first ever work-based Masters in Citizenship and Human Rights was formed through a partnership between the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) and Glasgow Caledonian University. Welcomed by the Equalities and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), it is designed for professionals and volunteers in the Third Sector and Public Sector who are interested in, or working to promote, the principles of human rights - including anti-discrimination, participative democracy, accountability and social responsibility.
