The Enterprise Fund demonstrates the university’s commitment to supporting innovative ideas and business ventures from staff and students alike.

We hope to promote a willingness to engage with risk and the real business environment by investing university funds in new ventures.

Key Enterprise Fund facts

The total fund value is £500,000, with up to £5,000 available for students. The Investment Committee, made up of the court, an executive and external expert manages the fund.

Applications must show clear potential for a product or service based idea, a defined product or service that you wish to pilot or a field trial or prototype that requires process engineering. The fund cannot be used to cover the cost of education or as rescue funding.

All investment decisions will be made by the Accounting Officer on the recommendations of the Investment Committee. Each decision is made on a case-by-case basis.
Investment criteria include:

  • An innovative, value added product or service centric idea
  • A unique selling proposition
  • An Identified market gap
  • Scalability
