Witness Seminar and Open Forum Series (No 7)
The Role of the Royal Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children (RSSPCC) in the Development of Child Protection
Recorded on 5 November
2005
For 120 years CHILDREN 1ST, the Royal
Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, has been
working to give every child in Scotland a safe and secure childhood.
Today they support families under stress, protect children from harm and
neglect, help them recorver from abuse and promote children's rights
and interests. This Witness Seminar and Open Forum will look at the role
played by the RSSPCC and capture some of their very significant work in
the area of child protection. The testament will touch on relationships
between the voluntary sector and statutory bodies, major changes in
methods of working, changing issues over the years in child protection,
changing patterns of recruitment and training of officers, perceptions
of changing public attitudes, and views of what were the pivotal events
in the fascinating history of the RSSPCC.
