Witness Seminar and Open Forum Series (No 3)
Chile and Scotland: 30 Years On
Recorded on 29 November
2003
On the morning of Tuesday 11 September 1973, two jets launched a
deadly attack on the Presidential Palace of La Moneda in the heart of
Santiago, Chile. A military coup led by Augusto Pinochet ousted the
presidency of Salvador Allende, the world's first democratically-elected
Marxist head of state.
Thirty years later oral testament is collected from those who were
present, those who fled, those who remember it, those who took direct
action against it, the families in Scotland who offered help, and those
involved directly and indirectly in Chile today.
