After the publication of Angela Hopkinson’s Single Mothers: the First Year in 1976, the Scottish Council for Single parents continued to keep in touch with mothers from this original study. In 1978 thirty of these mothers agreed to participate in a follow-up study. This publication – The Home that Jill Built – describes their personal view of their experiences during the intervening years, the changing patterns of their family circumstances and the welfare of their children at school age.
