Janet Roberts recently joined the Development Office as Director, working with the team on the various projects and events for Alumni and Friends of Glasgow Caledonian University.

Janet has over 15 years of experience working in the voluntary sector, including working in alumni relations at Oxford University, as well as working overseas in international development and as a consultant to charities across the UK.

Jillian is an alumnus of the University and graduated in the year 2000 with a BA (Hons) in Business & Information Management.

Jillian previously worked as the Head of Audience & Business Development for The Lighthouse, Scotland's Centre for Architecture & Design.

Jillian says, "l hope that my work within the Development & Alumni team will help to re-engage alumni with the University, to build lasting relationships and support that will ultimately provide an outstanding university experience for both our current and future students. A former graduate myself, l am truly inspired by how quickly the University has grown and developed and how much it lives its mission of being 'for the common weal' through some truly innovative initiatives such as the Caledonian Club."

Ann joins the Development & Alumni Relations team from her previous employment with Strathclyde University.  As PA to Janet Roberts and Jillian Watt, her duties include office organisation and involvement in event management.

Rob joined us in November 2012 from Heriot-Watt University, where he spent four years as their Alumni Relations Officer. He has a Marketing, PR and events background, going back to 2001, which includes work at a Welfare to Work organisation, a Charity Recycler and the British Army. Rob is also a Captain in the Territorial Army.

Rob spoke about GCU: “I am really enjoying working with Lindsey and the rest of the team to bring GCU alumni some new events and initiatives in the coming months and years. We plan to build on our current GCU alumni offering to make it more tangible and directly useful to our alumni – be that better networking, invites to interesting events, more relevant social media or offering direct enhancements to career paths.”

Lindsey joined the team in July 2012 having spent 2 years prior to that working for the Yunus Centre for Social Business and Health at GCU. Lindsey is an alumnus of GCU herself, graduating in 1998 with a BA business. After graduating, Lindsey spent several years in retail management before spending 7 years as Clinical Office Manager at Glasgow University Small Animal Hospital.

Lindsey says: ‘I am immensely proud to be representing GCU in this role and look forward to engaging with our alumni in exciting new ways. I had a very positive experience as a student here and it is such a pleasure to see first hand how the campus and the university as a whole has grown over the years and be part of its future development.’

Hannah Johnston began her career in Fundraising at Glasgow Caledonian University in 2005 securing significant investment for the Award winning Saltire Centre. Since then she has spent six years as Development Manager at The Glasgow School of Art where she helped deliver the £9 million Mackintosh Conservation & Access Project and latterly focussed on fundraising for Scholarships and securing corporate sponsorship for the institution. Re-joining GCU in 2012 as Development Officer for the Glasgow School for Business and Society and now as Development Manager she will continue to work with colleagues across the University to build external relationships for the benefit of the students and the supporters who invest in them. Initiatives of particular interest are Scholarships, the Caledonian Club and GCU’s outreach programmes and corporate support for our industry relevant programmes..

Janet Pierotti joins the team after 10 years in the School of Life Sciences where latterly she was their International Officer for student recruitment.

Janet says: “I focus on fundraising for our new School of Health and Life Sciences and I’m especially keen to engage with industry and our growing alumni, including those from our founding institutions. My background in the Health Service (BSc Nursing and former midwife) and Life Sciences has strengthened my resolve to seek support for students and staff to create wider benefits for society’s health and wellbeing”. Janet also has responsibility for the Brighter Futures Fund and the Queen’s College Fund.

David is an alumnus of the University and joined the Development and Alumni Relations team in November 2012.

David worked in the Development and Alumni Office at the University of Glasgow for eight years before taking up the role of Development Officer at GCU.  His work will involve fundraising for the University to support projects and programmes related to the School of Engineering and Built Environment.

John joined the Development and Alumni Relations team in May 2007 after working in a number of roles at Glasgow City Council for 7 years.

Lorna joined the team in November 2012 and will provide a key support service by researching trusts, companies and potential donors as well as providing up-to-date information on alumni and friends.

Lorna’s background is in fundraising for UK charities including Cancer Research UK and the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign. She was also part of Marie Curie Cancer Care’s team for the Big Build Appeal which raised £16.1m to build a new Marie Curie Hospice in Springburn.

Jim is an alumnus of the University, graduating in 2002 with a BA Business and Information Management and joined the Development and Alumni Relations team in February 2013. 

Jim worked in the Alumni and Development Office at the University of Strathclyde for ten years before taking up the role of Development Services Officer at GCU.
